4 vital rules for writing scholarship essays

When you’re faced with the task of writing a scholarship essay you might feel butterflies in your stomach.

You know that if you don’t get it just right you might not be able to continue going to college (or go in the first place). You know that you are competing with hundreds, and sometimes thousands of other academically capable students. You know that your friends, family members, and teachers are all counting on you to succeed.

So just how in the world are you going to overcome all of those difficulties and write an essay that gets you the cash you need to stay in or go to school? Easy! This article will give you the four vital rules for writing perfect scholarship essays.

  1. Be genuine
  2. Follow the prompt
  3. Play to their emotions
  4. Flawless grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc

The easiest of these four rules to understand is the fourth, so we’ll start there. Make sure that your paper is formatted perfectly and that there are no major, glaring errors in punctuation, spelling, or grammar.

If the person reviewing your paper is distracted by any of those things it will be much more difficult for you to be awarded the scholarship.

Be Genuine

Make sure that you let your personality shine through the essay. This can be difficult if you are writing on a subject that doesn’t typically allow for that, but crafting your essay carefully can help.

Try to allude to certain things about yourself. If you’re able, use persuasive and narrative techniques to really hit a home run.

Follow the Prompt

A lot of times people try to write scholarship essays they fail to properly follow the prompt. If you’re asked to write about how slavery might have effected your life you want to make sure to avoid too much of the history of slavery. It’s already assumed that both the reader and the writer know plenty about it.

If you have to allude to the history of slavery do it briefly, and then get back to how it has affected you. Of course, this is a very specific example, but the point should be clear.

Play to Their Emotions

If you are a single mother trying to get a scholarship that was created just for single mothers, you want to make sure that your essay not only makes it clear that you understand the difficulties of being a single mother, but you also want to make sure that you show how the scholarship will help you.

If you are writing a critical essay this might seem impossible, but there are ways to do it. Buying an essay will help get this done correctly, but if you don’t want to do that then meet with an English or writing tutor to help get it done correctly.

Remember, though, that you get what you pay for.

With these tips you should be able to write the perfect scholarship essay and get a ticket to ride through college without spending a dime.
