Media Literacy in Higher EducationHow do leaders of communication programs understand media literacy?  What are the opportunities and obstacles to implementing media literacy in communication programs and as a component of general education requirements?  Presenter: Paul Mihailidis, University of Maryland

Paul Mihailidis is a doctoral candidate in the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. His current research looks at media literacy on the higher education level. Specifically, he is concerned with how media education affects undergraduate students’ views of their role in democracy and their understanding of civic awareness.  His research explores the possible connections between media literacy and citizenship.
